Portrait of the young wordslinger as superhero
I always wanted to be a comic book hero(ine) when I grew up. Instead, I’m a wordslinger and marketing strategist with a knack for blending the experience of several double identities into highly effective, customized client solutions.
I have over a decade of experience providing management and marketing communications strategy to businesses and non-profit organizations. My program design, development and evaluation experience stems from tenures at two of Colorado’s leading non-profit agencies. My marketing experience draws from several years of work as an account executive and copywriter specializing in advertising and public relations for high tech companies.
I’m also a freelance writer who has contributed articles and essays on film and pop culture to numerous print publications, magazines and blogs. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree with honors in English from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, and pursued my Ph.D. in English at the University of California at Berkeley.
In 2005, I co-founded the Denver Roller Dolls, a non-profit roller derby league that has trained hundreds of athletes, contributed thousands of hours of community service, and become one of the top-ranked leagues in the country. In 2006, I co-produced Talk Derby to Me, a documentary about the roller derby revival. I’m retired now, but I still occasionally have to hip check someone at Grand Central during rush hour.
At the core of all of my writing, consulting and service work is a passion for solving problems, helping people, and contributing more good stuff to the universe. In that way, I still aspire to be like the comic book heroes and heroines I admired so much as a kid.
I currently live in Brooklyn with the curator of the Ehren Space Museum and a very resilient MacBook.
